- Abelian Dominance in SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theory .
- We used a renormalisation group based smoothing to address two questions related to abelian dominance. ... This enabled us to extract the abelian heavy-quark potential from time-like Wilson loops on Polyakov gauge projected configurations. ... This shows that the Polyakov gauge projected abelian configurations do not have a consistent physical meaning. We also applied the smoothing on SU(2) configurations to test how sensitive abelian dominance in the maximal abelian gauge is to the short distance fluctuations. We found that on smoothed SU(2) configurations the abelian string tension was about 30% smaller than the SU(2) string tension which was unaffected by smoothing. This suggests that the approximate abelian dominance found with the Wilson action is probably an accident and it has no fundamental physical relevance. ...

- , AB = BA for all elements A and B) is called an Abelian group. All cyclic groups are Abelian, but an Abelian group is not necessarily cyclic. All subgroups of an Abelian group are normal. If the group order is a prime squared , then there are two Abelian groups (denoted and. - A topological Abelian group G is Pontryagin reflexive, or P-reflexive for short, if the natural homomorphism of G to its bidual group is a topological isomorphism. We look at the question, set by Kaplan in 1948, of characterizing the topological Abelian groups that are P-reflexive. ...

- We show that the monopole confinement mechanism in lattice gluodynamics is a particular feature of themaximal abelian projection. We give an explicit example of the $SU(2) \rightarrow U(1)$ projection (the minimal abelian projection), in which the confinement is due to topological objects other than monopoles. We perform analytical and numerical study of the loop expansion of the Faddeev--Popov determinant for the maximal and the minimal abelian projections, and discuss the fundamental modular region for these projections. ...

- Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe the structure of the abelian group of central extensions of an infinite-dimensional Lie group in the sense of Milnor. In the Lie theoretic context, the central extensions of the Lie group $G$ by the abelian group $Z$ are those which are principal bundles. Their equivalence classes are parametrized by the abelian group $\Ext_{\rm Lie}(G,Z)$ whose structure we determine in terms of an exact sequence containing in particular the continuous Lie algebra cohomology group $H^2_c(\g,\z)$ which classifies the central extensions of the topological Lie algebra $\g$ by the abelian Lie algebra $\z$ for which there exists a continuous linear section $\g \to \hat\g$. ...
