- The Bank of England currently purchases or holds as collateral eligible bankers' acceptances as part of its open market operations. On 11 February 2005, the Bank announced that it would cease the eligible banks regime and that after 17 August, eligible bankers' acceptances will no longer be eligible collateral in Open Market Operations or for intra-day liquidity in CHAPS Sterling. The addendum to the Notice on Eligible Banks and Eligible Bankers' acceptances (pdf file 12k) sets out the new criteria for eligibility of existing and new bankers' acceptances.
