- A UK Information Network for Heat Pumps.
- The UK Heat Pump Network was launched in July 1999 to help the UK heat pump market develop according to best practice on environmental and economic grounds. Through the UK Network, Government is working in partnership with manufacturers, specifiers, and user groups to develop independent and authoritative advice on the application and use of heat pumps. Government backing is via the DTI and DETR, with industrial support via the Heat Pump Association.
- The UK Network provides information of benefit to manufacturers, suppliers, importers, utilities, researchers, architects and consultants/specifiers, wherever heat pump technology can be used for heating and/or cooling of buildings and for heat recovery for industrial and buildings applications.

2. Metric Heat and Temperature
- www.essex1.com
- Metric Heat and Temperature .
- The energy in this case is changed into heat (since energy must be conserved) and in this case the conversion is 100% efficient. ...
- Heat is the energy of molecular motion. All molecules move, so all matter (everything is made of molecules) contains heat energy. A vacuum (empty space) cannot have any heat energy because it doesn't have any molecules. Heat can be transferred from place to place by conduction in solids, convection of fluids (liquids or gases), and radiation through anything that will allow the radiation to pass. Silver is the best conductor of heat. ... Styrofoam is one of the worst conductors, therefore it is used as a heat insulator. ... Most of the heat we get comes from the sun by radiation. Sunlight amounts to about one kilowatt of heat per square meter of the earth's surface. ...
- Although the metric unit of energy is the joule, heat is commonly also measured in units called calories (there are about 4. ...
- A calorie is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water, one Celsius degree. ... A Calorie or kilocalorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water one Celsius degree. ...
- The British system unit of heat is the British Thermal Unit, or BTU. A BTU is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of a pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. ...
- Temperature is a measure of the concentration of heat, or the average amount of motion per molecule. ... Adding heat to a substance makes the molecules move faster, and therefore increases the temperature. ... At a certain temperature, specific to each kind of matter, additional heat will change the substance from a solid to a liquid, or from a liquid to a gas, without any increase in temperature. In the case of water, adding heat to ice at 0 degrees Celsius produces water at 0 degrees Celsius. The heat is all used in separating the molecules, and the molecules are not moving any faster as a result. ... It requires a lot of heat but the steam has the same temperature as the water from which it was formed. ...

- Heat Exhaustion .
- Heat Stroke .
- Preventing Heat-Related Illnesses .
- These conditions are largely brought on by heat and dehydration -- and with proper care it is possible to prevent them. Heat Cramps.
- Heat cramps are muscle contractions, usually in the gastrocnemius or hamstring muscles (the muscles at the back of the calves). ... These cramps seem to be connected to heat, dehydration, and poor conditioning, rather than to lack of salt or other mineral imbalances. ... Heat Exhaustion.
- Although partly due to exhaustion -- and feeling like exhaustion, as the name implies -- heat exhaustion is also a result of excessive heat and dehydration. The signs of heat exhaustion include paleness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fainting, and a moderately increased temperature (101-102 degrees F) which, in this case, is not truly a fever, but caused by the heat. Rest and water may help in mild heat exhaustion, and ice packs and a cool environment (with a fan blowing at the child) may also help. ... Heat Stroke.
- Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Heat stroke is the most severe form of heat illness. ... Athletes who have heat stroke after vigorous exercise in hot weather, though, may still be sweating considerably. Whether exercise-related or not, though, a person with heat stroke usually has a very high temeperature (106 degrees F or higher), and may be delirious, unconscious, or having seizures. These patients need to have their temperature reduced quickly, often with ice packs, and must also be given IV fluids for rehydration; they must be taken to the hospital as quickly as possible (EMS is appropriate here), and may have to stay in the hospital for observation since many different body organs can fail in heat stroke. 5. Heat Transfer

- Heat Transfer .
- The transfer of heat is normally from a high temperature object to a lower temperature object. Heat transfer changes the internal energy of both systems involved according to the First Law of Thermodynamics. ...
- Heat transfer from a cold to a hotter region.
- Heat Conduction .
- Conduction is heat transfer by means of molecular agitation within a material without any motion of the material as a whole. ... For heat transfer between two plane surfaces, such as heat loss through the wall of a house, the rate of conduction heat transfer is: .

- Convection is heat transfer by mass motion of a fluid such as air or water when the heated fluid is caused to move away from the source of heat, carrying energy with it. ...
- The granules are described as convection cells which transport heat from the interior of the Sun to the surface. ...
- In ordinary heat transfer on the Earth, it is difficult to quantify the effects of convection since it inherently depends upon small nonuniformities in an otherwise fairly homogeneous medium. ...
